Professional Development Opportunity for Composers
Eight ‘up-and-coming’ composers (Robin Haigh, Sarah Lewis, Ben Lunn, Alex Mills, Helen Papaioannou, Lisa Robertson, Laura Shipsey, Peter Wilson) have been selected to work with the Ligeti Quartet towards a new 6-minute piece for string quartet over two workshops (first workshop Friday 27th April 2018, second workshop Autumn 2018 date tbc, held at The University of Sheffield). The workshop, generously funded by Arts Council England, is also open to observers, including A-Level students and their teachers.
Attendance by observers may be to the Morning Session 9.30-12.30 or the Afternoon Session 1.30-4.30 (composers who applied for the workshop or who are attending the conference may request to attend both sessions). Refreshments will be provided and observers will have the opportunity to mix with the artists.

The Ligeti Quartet will be performing at Firth Court, Sheffield University, on Thursday 26th April, to launch CeNMaS with a programme of new music by Sheffield composers. The Ligeti workshop on 27th April will connect on to the Sound Agendas Composers’ Conference 27th-29th April, which includes three exciting concerts by world-class performers. All of this is the culmination of the Sound Lab Week of new music events.
